Leider sind die zahlreichen Fundstätten größtenteils in Vergessenheit geraten und sind bei der zeitgenössischen Bevölkerung daher kaum mehr bekannt. Ziel der vorliegenden Publikation ist es daher, die Existenz der in ihrer Gesamtheit als sehr eindrücklich, ja sogar faszinierend und archäologisch äußerst wertvoll zu bezeichnenden Fundstätten und -objekte wieder in Erinnerung zu rufen und dazu zu animieren, diesen zum Beispiel im Rahmen eines Spaziergangs oder einer Wanderung einen Besuch abzustatten. Lehrpersonen von Sekundar- und Fachmittelschulen sowie von Gymnasien möchte ich animieren, auf der Grundlage dieses Buches die Ur- und Frühgeschichte im Großraum Bern zu thematisieren: Durch Exkursionen zu den nahegelegenen Grabstätten unserer Vorfahren kann der Geschichtsunterricht direkt im Gelände und damit sehr anschaulich durchgeführt werden.
Bei der Umschreibung der einzelnen Fundstellen werden zu einem großen Teil Ausschnitte aus Publikationen zitiert, die älter als a hundred Jahre alt und deswegen nicht ohne weiteres zugänglich sind. Ausgewählte Stellen aus Publikationen über die Funde bei den Ausgrabungen der jeweiligen Tumuli weisen die Interessierten auf weiterführende Literatur hin, wo detaillierte Informationen in Wort und Bild zu finden sind. So eröffnet sich der/dem Lesenden in diesem Buch eine Welt, die mindestens 2000, zu einem guten Teil sogar gegen 2800 Jahre alt ist.
